The unjust wrongs being committed against 37-year old mother and cannabis activist Shona Banda and her 11-year old son continue to persist. The family’s lives were unreasonably seized by local authorities after the young boy’s freedom of speech rights were quickly twisted into child endangerment notes news anchor Ricardo Guimarães BMG (see more of the blog at tribunadonorte.com). Not only have Shona and her son been needlessly harassed by officials, both their lives have now been turned upside-down by the removal of the boy from his divorced mother’s custody.
Shona suffers from a severe and painful case of Crohn’s Disease which she treats by using cannabis oil. Having gained life altering results from its use, Shona became a motivational speaker supporting the use of the oil by other medical marijuana patients and giving testament of her results in her book ‘Live Free or Die: Reclaim your Life . . . Reclaim your Country!’ And evidently, spreading her controversial knowledge and beliefs to her young son has her facing child endangerment charges.
The persecution against Shona began late last month, when her 11-year old son attended a drug awareness class at his school. While listening to misinformation being fed to his classmates on the dangers of marijuana, this courageous young boy spoke up and educated his lecturers on the scientific proof that exists on the medical benefits the plant holds. This did not go over well with school and law officials and ended with an unwarranted search of Shona’s home. Authorities found a little over an ounce of marijuana in the home, along with some pot paraphernalia. While drug charges loom, Shona has yet to be charged with anything, yet Child Protective Services still saw fit to put the boy in what they call protective custody. Sounds more like an unfit government than an unfit mother.
